Lacy Curtis-Ward, CEO, said, “We are one of the largest employers in the local area. The majority of our staff and our members live locally which is why we take local corporate social responsibility so seriously. Over the last few years we have invested over 8.5 million into the business and it is a priority going forward to continue to engage with as many local stakeholders as possible.”
Corporate Social Responsibility is a key priority for The Lensbury. The support we offer to local charities is a mix of real cash donations plus free facilities, free accommodation and staff time. The latter two can often bring in thousands of pounds of match funding secured in the space of just one evening.
In Kind Support From the Lensbury Team
The Lensbury’s Watersports team works with Richmond Council to support young people in schools. Every year a team is formed from local schools to enter the London Youth Games. We work on the selection and training to form the Borough Sailing and Kayaking teams. This allows children from a variety of backgrounds to learn new skills and experience the facilities of The Lensbury. It has been a great success.
We also run an after school project for 10 weeks (5 sailing/5 kayaking) during the summer term for 24 children per school.
In addition to this The Lensbury team attends school assemblies to promote sailing and kayaking, and make raffle prize donations of boat hire and lessons.
We will continue this work in the future and we believe it is one of our contributions to the Olympic Legacy for the Borough.
We also make some of our state of the art Conference Rooms available for the community, including the Riverside Pavilion. Recently used by The Jeevika Trust and Project le Monde. Our contribution to fundraising has generated over £100,000 for charities.
The Lensbury was also highly commended for Best Training and Development at the Richmond Business Awards 2012.
