Former England rugby great Bill Beaumont and newly elected MP for Twickenham Dr Tania Mathias, joined forces on Tuesday evening to open the new Heavy Weights Room at The Lensbury.
The new state of the art gym has been built to the highest spec, as a part of The Lensbury’s role as being a Team Base for Rugby World Cup 2015. During the championship, which takes place later this year, The Lensbury will play host to New Zealand, South Africa and other teams through to the final.
Mr Beaumont was clearly impressed by the new building. “I’d like to thank The Lensbury Board for having the foresight to invest in this fantastic facility.” He also said he had a long standing affection for The Lensbury.
Dr Mathias, whose grandfather played Rugby for Glamorgan, was obviously delighted with being part of the occasion as she later tweeted ‘Rugby Heroes in Teddington.’
General Manager, Ivor Turner said “This facility for personal training for our members and premier athletes sets The Lensbury apart”.
Also amongst the audience and taking a good look at the facilities was another former England Captain, Rob Andrew as well as England 7’s Head Coach Simon Amor.
