Lensbury member Adam Walsh wins gold for Richmond at the London Youth Games regatta.
For the last six years The Lensbury has held trials and training for Richmond to train and select a group of sailors to represent the borough at the London Youth Games sailing regatta. This year we took a team of 8 sailors to King George reservoir in Chingford Essex to compete in different classes of boats over two days. They were a mixture of Lensbury members and other sailors from the borough. They had all trained hard in the lead up to the regatta and had a training session from Alex Hovden and Nicola Groves, both sailing with team GB training for the Olympics in Rio 2016.
The weather could not have been better for sailing with a decent breeze and glorious sunshine and the results they achieved were outstanding; Adam Walsh (Lensbury member) and Diya Yadav won Richmond’s first ever gold medal for sailing in the mixed Pico class. They also got a Bronze medal in the Topper female class, a fourth in the Topper small rig class and another two top ten finishes. The team overall were 6th London Borough out 33.
This wonderful achievement and results prove that hard work and dedication to sport lead to results. Well done to the whole team!
