Richmond Wins the ‘Regatta Trophy’ at the London Youth Games

After the success last week of the Lensbury trained Kayakers in winning the team gold at the London Youth Games, an outstanding effort by the seven-strong sailing team was enough to secure Richmond the overall water-sports title, the ‘Regatta Trophy’ at the weekend.

The Richmond sailing team, who are also trained at The Lensbury, took two medals at the sailing event, which was held at the King George Reservoir, Chingford, Essex.

The pairing of Adam Walsh and Diya Yadav, both 14 years old, put in an outstanding performance to take the Gold Medal in the Mixed Pico event, while twelve year old Joseph Dorman showed courage and determination to claim the bronze in the Junior Topper.

Overall the sailing team finished the event in 9th out of the 33 competing London Boroughs.

The Regatta Trophy is awarded to the best overall team in the three water sports disciplines of kayaking, sailing and rowing, and the combined scores saw Richmond claim the prestigious title.

The London Youth Games are the largest youth sports event in Europe, comprising of 85 events across 31 different sports. All 33 of London’s boroughs are represented and last year over 126,000 young sportsmen and women competed in the games.
